I love this quote by Mr. Raymond when he is talking to Dill and Scout outside of the court house. Dill is crying and he tells him in a few years he will not cry about such things.
Dill says, "Cry about what, Mr. Raymond?"
"Cry about the simple hell people give other people without even thinking. Cry about the hell white people give colored folks, without even stopping to think that they're people, too."
I think that all of page 201 (where this quote can be found) has to do something with the theme racism, and growing up. (If you don't have the same book I have, it is when Dill, Scout and Mr. Raymond are talking about how it makes him sick to see what is happening in the court room.)

I'd have to day that Mr. Raymond is one of my favorite characters in the book.
ReplyDeleteMr. Raymond doesn't seem to look at people based on the color of their skin. I'm sure he's been through a lot because of that fact.
